Read moreThis sugar factory, founded in 1876 , produced raw sugar from sugar beets. During World War II, forced laborers were used to harvest the beets. The sugar factory remained active until 1985. After its closure, the approximately 6-hectare industrial site was used by a nearby company to store various materials for the nearby gravel extraction. Some areas not suitable for use by the gravel company are rented out to a recycling company, among others. However, large parts of the former factory have remained unused. It wasn't long before the buildings fell prey to thieves, vandals, and arsonists. Nevertheless, large parts of the factory are beautifully preserved and well worth a visit.
