Numerous Zeches can be found in the coal basin in the German Ruhr area. Many of these Zeches have since been demolished, but this one has remained almost completely intact. It is therefore on the list of industrial heritage to be preserved. This was the fourth shaft of a larger mining company. Excavation work began there in 1959, but it took another four years before the first coal was mined.
Mining operations were halted there at the end of 2001. The mine has been preserved almost entirely and is particularly worth a visit due to the headframe dating from 1962, which is significant in terms of its development history. The shaft hall and the hoisting house form a functional unit with the hoisting frame and are worth preserving. The shaft system of this Zeche is one of the most striking shaft systems in the Rhineland due to the historical importance of the preserved scaffolding and the typical architecture of the shaft buildings.
