The story of this Zeche dates back to 1855, but excavation did not start until 1912. However, the outbreak of the First World War caused significant delays in coal mining. It was not until 1915, right in the middle of the war years, that coal was brought to the surface from a depth of nearly 400 meters. The second shaft was put into operation shortly after the war. Together with the mine's other shafts, nearly 3 million tonnes of coal were extracted from the earth by more than 4,000 miners during the peak years (the 1980s)... From that period on, however, the mine's success began to wane.

In the early 2000s, the day facilities of shaft 3 were completely demolished. From 2003 to 2005, the day facilities of Zeche N1 were completely demolished, with the exception of main frames 1 and 2, as well as the machinery (power plant) and the building of the former weir, to which the gas extraction system is attached. These must be preserved as industrial monuments. Zeche N4, a little further away, is still fully preserved.
