This coal mine was put into operation in 1977. Both the architectural style and the interior of Bergwerk Blumenthal clearly date from the 1970s. The coal company was taken over several times by other companies before finally being decommissioned in 1999. The mine shaft itself is six by six meters wide and extends over 1,100 meters underground. Together with the nearby second mine shaft of the same company, 3 million tons of coal were extracted annually. In 2015, the shaft was filled with 37,000 m³ of concrete.
Here, too, we see the characteristic "baskets" that served as lockers for the miners. After changing, they stored their personal belongings in them, after which the basket was pulled up to the ceiling of the chamber with a chain. The chain was then attached to a numbered metal frame. This way, the miners' personal belongings were safe from potential thieves. Moreover, it served as an additional checkpoint for the mine supervisors to see who was (still) in the mine.
