This building was originally owned by a nearby textile company. It was used as the company's administrative headquarters. The name 'Villa Klodderkes' is somewhat misleading. Firstly, because it is not a villa, but a town house. 'Klodderkes' is said to be derived from 'klodden', a term from the flax retting industry. 'Klodden' was a step in the process of separating the flax fibers from the raw material.
Later, the building would serve as a doctor's practice and residence for some time. Its final function, together with the adjacent building, was that of a police station. The reception area and the cells of the police station are still present. Since the building fell into disuse, it has served as a set for films and television series on several occasions. The mansion is best known for its majestic entrance hall with marble staircases and stained-glass windows.
The building was still owned by the municipal government at the time of this visit, but was going to be put up for sale on the private market shortly. In the mean time the building has been sold and reconverted into appartments, with the original facade of the building kept intact.
