This factory, which manufactured components for light bulbs, was founded in 1965. It was a joint venture between Philips and Osram, the largest players in the light bulb market. The once-successful factory was hit in 2012 with a European ban on selling light bulbs, effective September 1, 2012. Despite frantic efforts to find alternatives, the company was forced to halt production. In May 2013, the last production facility closed its doors for good.
The factory has since been largely emptied, but one production hall still offers a glimpse into its industrial past. The site was recently sold to a Turkish company. The buildings will be demolished, and a new factory for the production of flat glass will be built in their place.
