Not much remains of this iron foundry, which is over 100 years old. Information about it is also extremely scarce. The factory was founded in 1910 and specialized in steel fittings. The company was equipped with a five-ton electric arc furnace and a smaller induction furnace. Despite its rather modest equipment, the company produced castings up to four tons each.
In what was once one of the most important regions in the German steel industry, the slump in the steel sector also hit hard here. After the decline of the steel industry had already begun in the 1970s, several of the largest steel companies located in this region disappeared. A few smaller players, specializing in specific production processes, were able to hold on for a while longer. However, most of them also disappeared during the 1990s.
After more than 100 years of operation, this foundry eventually ran into financial trouble in 2016. It filed for bankruptcy, putting the future of the company's 50 employees at risk. Negotiations with a potential investor proved fruitless, and in 2018, the last steel company in the region finally closed.
Today, only a shadow remains of the once-thriving company. The machinery has disappeared from the ruined buildings, and here and there, the remaining casting molds still serve as reminders of its bygone glory.
