Amidst the rolling landscape of Saxony-Anhalt, surrounded by forests and fields, we came across this beautifully dilapidated building. Built in the then-popular Bauhaus style between 1929 and 1930, the monumental building was originally a sanatorium for children with tuberculosis. The sanatorium was run by Dr. Berta Bals, a lung specialist, and had a capacity of 80 beds.

When the number of patients dropped sharply in the early 1960s, thanks to preventive vaccinations that virtually eliminated tuberculosis, the building was converted into a children's hospital between 1965 and 1967. In addition to medical staff, the hospital also had several teachers who provided the children with instruction, allowing them to easily resume school after their discharge. At the end of 1997, the children's hospital moved to a new location. Since then, the old children's hospital has been vacant.
