Read moreThis cemetery is known for its many nineteenth-century graves. It was laid out during a cholera epidemic in the second half of the 19th century and remained in use for nearly a hundred years. The churchyard is situated on the northern flank of a valley in a wooded area. Due to a lack of maintenance, nature was allowed to take its course here. This led to rich fauna and flora, combined with significant funerary heritage. The churchyard offers a fairly comprehensive overview of all major trends in funerary art in these regions from the end of the 19th century up to the Second World War.
Because it is the final resting place of numerous celebrities, it is sometimes compared to Père Lachaise in Paris.
