This Protestant 'Church of the Redeemer' was built between 1891 and 1899 based on plans by the renowned church architect Friedrich Fahro. The church is characterized by the presence of community and living rooms in the basement and the church interior itself on the upper floor.
It is unclear how long the church has been abandoned, but judging by its advanced state of decay, it must have been since at least the early 1990s. In 2002, the local Protestant parish submitted a request for the church's demolition. Due to an upcoming project by architecture students concerning the repurposing of churches, the demolition work was postponed. The National Office for the Preservation of Monuments also hoped that the exhibition of the best projects during "Denkmal 2006" in Leipzig would attract interested investors. Meanwhile, twenty years have passed, and the church still stands in a state of disrepair.
