The 'Campus Rooienberg' in Duffel, affiliated with the nearby Sint-Norbertus Institute for Nursing, was built in the early 1960s. It became a sleek, austere building, without architectural marvels, but with a high practical value. In addition to the usual departments, the hospital housed an important and renowned department for psychiatric medicine.
In 2018, the buildings were vacated and the campus moved to the new Emmaüs hospital complex, the Sint-Maarten Hospital in Mechelen. There was uncertainty for a long time regarding the fate of the vacant buildings in Duffel, but eventually it was decided to demolish them to make way for new projects. The buildings continued to be used for police and fire brigade exercises for some time. Demolition work started at the end of 2019 and was completed during the summer of 2020...
