In Antwerp, more specifically on 'het Eilandje' (the island), is the Port Authority building, designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid (1950-2016). A spectacular new structure was built on top of the old, listed fire station, built in 1922. The new section is a stylized hull of a sailing ship with a projecting bowsprit. The building's exterior surfaces were designed like the facets of a diamond, emphasizing Antwerp's status as a global port and its diamond industry. The exterior facades and roofing of the former station remain unchanged.
In March 2018, the Port House was awarded the annual prize of the Marché International des Professionnels de l'Immobilier in Cannes as 'the best renovated building'.
