The Franco-Belgian coal company Forte Taille sold this land to the city of Charleroi in 1941. The city council intended to develop playgrounds for children there, but first the land had to be redeveloped. In particular, the existing spoil heap at the time of acquisition was expanded across a large part of the site. This gave the Bomerée plain a unique character and a place of adventure for several generations of children. The buildings, which included kitchens, refectories, showers, restrooms, and housing for a caretaker, were constructed between 1950 and 1955.
The daycare centre was officially inaugurated in 1955 by Edmond Leburton, Minister of Health and Family Affairs, and was attended by generations of children for many decades.
In 2009, a scandal erupted when a significant amount of money was stolen from the municipal fund for the city's accredited daycare centers and playgrounds. The investigation quickly led to the city official responsible for this fund. In 2010, she was officially charged with fraud and forgery. It was at this very facility that she was arrested in late summer 2010. The daycare center closed its doors permanently shortly thereafter.
