Piscine Crachoir in Mechelen, opened its doors in the early 1920s. In Mechelen, the municipal swimming pool, bathhouse, and wellness center are known as "den aaven dok". The Art Nouveau building retained this function until it saw its last bather leave almost 80 years later. In addition to the swimming pool, bathing, and sauna facilities, the enormous building also housed numerous spaces for sports and cultural activities.
After more than 15 years of vacancy, restoration work on the listed building finally began. For now, only the building's facades are being addressed. Due to the long-standing disagreement about the complex's future purpose, the restoration of the interior of the buildings has been exceptionally long in coming. The decision has now been made. The Van der Valck hotel chain has converted the complex into a hotel.
