Mini Blast Furnace

Small (-ish) blast furnace on the site of a steel giant.

This 'small' blast furnace is located on the grounds of a steel giant. The site is actively guarded, and a previous attempt only resulted in an encounter with a friendly security guard. A few weeks later, after exploring the area a bit more, we plucked up the courage and made another attempt. This time with the hoped-for success!

Compared to other blast furnaces, this one was relatively small. We were only able to visit the tower building containing the blast furnace itself. The surrounding buildings had already been demolished. Why this part of the otherwise still active steelworks had to disappear is not entirely clear. Little can be learned about its history either. But the visit was definitely worth while.
