Memorial monument in Ypres in memory of the nearly 55,000 British soldiers who fell during the First World War in Flanders Fields and who could no longer be identified or found. The gate, in the form of a Roman triumphal arch, was built by the British between 1923 and 1927. Everywhere you look, you see the names of British soldiers. 54,896 in total! The remains of fallen soldiers that are still found during excavations are interred in British cemeteries with the inscription "known unto god". The impressive monument was included in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage in 2009.
