This spacious mansion, vacant since its occupant's death in October 2017, was filled for many years with the rhythmic sounds of a ticking typewriter. Little is known about the building's history, but much more is known about its illustrious occupant...
LL was a French screenwriter whose work, though highly regarded in France itself, never achieved international success. Nevertheless, he gained international attention in 2001 when he sued not only a French colleague but also one of Hollywood's biggest directors for plagiarism. His claim was initially rejected, but LL persevered and appealed, winning his case. The appeals court could not ignore the similarities between LL's original script and the subsequent French and American remakes. The compensation he received was never disclosed, but it was 'only' a percentage of the $15 million gross of the French remake, not the $380 million gross of the American remake worldwide. After all, the American director had bought the script from his French colleague in good faith.
