This remarkable Neo-Gothic chapel originally belonged to an orphanage and home for the elderly that was founded around 1840. The buildings were expanded 15 years later and supplemented with the chapel. Later, the complex would be further expanded into a fully-fledged hospital. The oldest part of the original orphanage has since been demolished. The southern wing, with the attached chapel, has been protected as a monument since 1985 and has already been partially restored.
The entire site became vacant due to the relocation of hospital activities. Unfortunately, it did not take long for vandals to find their way to the chapel. I visited the chapel twice with an interval of only two weeks, and even in that short time, the extensive damage was striking…
