Along a busy road in the southernmost part of Belgium, we came across several completely dilapidated cottages with a shed. It is impossible to ascertain what happened here that caused the owners to disappear without a trace. The cottages had already largely collapsed. In any case, they were in too poor a condition to be entered in a reasonably safe manner.
The shed looked like it had been some kind of car workshop. In the garden and the woods behind the cottages, we found the carcasses of several old cars, mainly Citroëns. Also a Volkswagen hippie van, a few trucks, and even an army truck.
It was a rather chilly morning, and the sun was stubbornly trying to break through the mist between the slender pines. This gave the whole scene an almost mystical atmosphere. I wonder if the photos can somewhat convey that atmosphere...
