The hot spring around which this spa was built was discovered as early as the Middle Ages, presumably during mining operations. It is now the oldest and warmest thermal spring in the region and is still used for balneological purposes.
This building, the so-called 'Kulturhaus', was part of a larger complex. This section of the spa housed, among other things, a large event hall, a winter garden, and over 100 guest rooms. Construction work for this building began in 1951 and was not fully completed until 1954. However, the building was officially opened as early as 1953.
The building has been vacant since shortly after the turn of the century. The more than 15 years of vacancy have already left clear traces. A renovation is urgently needed to protect the now listed building from further deterioration. The only potential buyer so far, an investor, backed out. He wanted to turn the building into a rehabilitation center for sports medicine, but could not make the project financially viable.
The complex is for sale for €680,000. However, the city is imposing strict standards with the intention of largely preserving the structural framework and the interior. Naturally, this deters potential investors.
