An absolute highlight of this road trip was this unique and beautifully decorated hotel on the edge of the Black Forest in Germany. This hotel is known by various names: Hunter Hotel, Jägerhotel, or Hotel S are a few of them.
The hotel began its history in the mid-19th century as a small forest hut. At that time, the small village had only a few houses, originally inhabited by forest workers. The building was first used as a bar and later as an inn at the end of the 19th century, when it became popular among hikers and hunters.
A small village gradually grew up around the inn. Later, in the 1930s, it was even expanded into a spa resort. This modernization added, among other things, a restaurant to the hotel, which was famous for serving typical dishes from this region of the Black Forest. During this time, a ski slope was also constructed, making the area a popular holiday destination in the winter.
Because a janitor has taken up residence in a few of the rooms, the building is very well preserved, without any traces of vandalism. The ground floor is filled with antique wooden furniture, pianos, and trinkets. Taxidermied animals emphasize the 'hunter's lodge' theme. Ceiling lighting in the banquet hall is made of antlers. Upstairs, there are several floors of rooms, all uniquely decorated and furnished. Each one contains all sorts of charming details, such as antique radios or gramophones.
