Factory H is a building of the Société Anonyme des Magazins à Grains d'Anvers (SAMGA). Together with the other buildings, it can be found at the Amerikadok in Antwerp. Factory H is the second of four buildings. The buildings have been designated as established architectural heritage.
SAMGA was founded in the mid-19th century for the storage, transshipment, and trade of grains imported from America and Russia. The remarkable buildings were renowned both domestically and internationally for the revolutionary techniques used in grain handling.
This specific building was erected in 1939, next to the original building from 1895. The building contains 115 silos. Together, these can hold more than 27,000 tonnes of grain. Demolition of the building commenced in the spring of 2020. The buildings must make way for the construction of the Oosterweel connection. As a result, another magnificent example of industrial heritage is disappearing.
