Amidst the fields, exposed to the elements from all four directions, stands this charming little church awaiting a new purpose. The church's somewhat unusual location is due to the pastor and driving force behind it, who insisted that it be built in the center of the four surrounding hamlets. The land was donated by a local baron, and the parishioners themselves financed the project. The church was therefore built as inexpensively as possible, using bricks fired on-site with available materials. Construction began in 1903, and on Christmas Eve 1907, the church was consecrated, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. Parishioners were entitled to their own church pew, provided they paid a fee to the churchwardenship.
The last pastor of the Eglise des Alouettes left the parish in 1973. From then on, services were led by the pastor of the main parish. However, in 1994, the church was finally abandoned, not only due to a lack of pastors, but also due to a lack of parishioners. The fragile church, whose exterior walls now had to be stabilized with tie rods, continued to brave the elements. A few years ago, the now deconsecrated church was sold privately. The new owner decided to live in the rectory and convert it into offices for his business.
In 2016, disaster struck when a worker fell through the bell tower floor and plunged more than ten meters. Emergency services arrived too late. The man died at the scene from his injuries. Work has never resumed since then.
