'Ecole Dauphin', also known as 'Ecole Symphorine' was built as part of the 'Athenée Royal du Condroz' in the 1960's. It was built using modular 'RTG pavilions' (prefabricated structures common in Belgian school infrastructure at the time) sprawled across a 3-hectare site.

During its peak in the late 20th century, École Symphorine was a bustling educational hub, welcoming several hundred students from the local Condroz region. Over the decades, enrollment steadily declined. By its final years, the sprawling complex was vastly underutilized, eventually operating with just a single class.

With only about a dozen students remaining, the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (the French-speaking community government of Belgium) officially closed the school in June 2021. Following its closure, the property became an abandoned eyesore (chancre). The vacant structures were heavily vandalized and squatted.

The local municipality of Havelange initially wanted to purchase the site to consolidate its administrative services, local police, and social services (CPAS). However, negotiations collapsed in late 2021 because the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles demanded a price roughly five times higher than the local government's appraisal.
