Following a bequest from Marie-Thérèse Loriers in 1873, her home was transformed into a retirement home, with the income from the land she bequeathed to the municipalities to support the residents. The hospice was inaugurated in 1889.

After the Second World War, it became the Saint-Joseph Hospital. The hospital's operations were then bolstered by the arrival of several nuns (trained nurses and midwives) from the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Louvain.

After the hospital closed in the 1960s, the buildings housed a nursing home for the elderly. They have been awaiting repurposing since the construction of the new Loriers Home in Hannut in 2015.
