This Neo-Romanesque church was designed by a Ghent architect. It has a basilica plan (high central nave with lower side aisles). The central nave has a remarkably flat ceiling covered with wooden panels. Also typical of the (Neo)Romanesque architectural style is the choir, which opens into an apse with a cul-de-four (vault in the shape of a half-dome). The walls of the central nave rest on arcades. These, in turn, rest alternately on strong pillars and columns with capitals. The tower is positioned laterally against the western facade. Greenish sandstone of Dolhain further emphasizes the austerity and Romanesque character. Raven Church was built between 1906 and 1907.
On a Sunday morning in August 2015, the fire brigade had to rush out because the entire bell tower was engulfed in flames. The fire turned out to have been caused by copper thieves who were in the process of stealing the copper from the tower's wiring. At that time, the church had already been empty for several years. Due to the inaccessibility of the tower, it took the fire brigade several hours to conquer the fire. The damage was considerable. Since the church does not have protected status, it seems virtually inevitable that it will be completely demolished in the near future…
