This church, with the medieval tower dating back to the 12th century, was designated a protected monument in 1972. In 1983, the later addition to the church was fundamentally damaged by an earthquake. It took several years before the full consequences of this damage became apparent. Due to the potential risk of collapse, the church was decommissioned in 1990. Since then, the monument has been in a state of disrepair for over 25 years. Demolition was necessary, but only became possible after the declassification decision of June 29, 2015.
Because of disagreements between the churchwardenship, which owns the building and the land and wants to see a new building for worship built on the same site, and the municipality, which prefers to create a small park around the 12th-century tower to be preserved , no action was taken for many years...
Finally in 2018 the municipality won the case. The church was demolished, but the medieval tower remained intact.
