Read moreChateau Baudoux, also known in urban circles as 'Chateau Halloween', was the residence of Eugène Baudoux, an industrialist who made his fortune in the glass industry in 19th-century Charleroi. The small chateau fell victim to flames in 1886, when a mob of disgruntled glass workers, prompted by imposed wage cuts, went on a rampage of looting and plunder. Both the castle and Baudoux's glass factory were set ablaze.
During the night of October 21st to 22nd, 2023, there was another fire in the ill-fated chateau, this time likely due to squatters occupying the by then since many years abandoned building. Today, only a ruin remains. Only the ground floor and the cellars are still accessible.
