Van Honsebrouck Brewery was founded around 1900. Emile and Louisa Van Honsebrouck left the family brewery at that time due to a dispute between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. They bought a small farm, where they established their own brewery. In 1922, the founders were succeeded by their sons, Paul and Ernest Van Honsebrouck. The brewery has remained in family ownership ever since.
Originally, mainly lager was brewed. In 1953, the third generation of brewers arrived when Luc Van Honsebrouck succeeded Paul and Ernest. His ideas brought about a turnaround for the brewery. They decided to specialize in brewing top-fermented beers, such as Bacchus. The range further included a gueuze, several fruit beers, and various castle beers.
In 2010, Xavier in turn succeeded his father Luc. Under his leadership, a new brewery with a visitor center was put into operation in nearby Emelgem in 2016. The original brewery in Ingelmunster was subsequently demolished.
Take a look at the brewery's website for a detailed history of Brewery Van Honsebrouck.
