Just like its counterpart HFB in Liège, this gigantic steelworks in Charleroi has many several subdivisions, each with its own particular pupose in the steelworks process. Unlike HFB though, all of the subdivisions on this site have gotten a different name, as if they had nothing to do with one another. By filtering on 'Carsid' (above) you'll get an overview of the entire steelworks site.
In an industrial complex like this, where numerous machines run continuously at full speed and high temperatures are generated, a sufficiently large water supply is indispensable. Moreover this water supply must be kept under a guaranteed constant pressure. That is why you invariably find a private water tower at most steel sites. Such a water tower is easily overlooked, especially since there are so many other beautiful things to see on the site. Nevertheless, it is usually well worth the effort to take a look here as well.
This particular example has withstood the test of time relatively well, but the extensive decay is becoming increasingly evident. The climb to the top is not entirely without risks, and caution is always advised. Rust and concrete rot have wreaked havoc on this water tower in recent years. So, be careful should you decide to venture a visit...
