We are always happy to come across the artworks of Klaas Van der Linden. This time, he did his thing in an abandoned workshop of the Belgian railway company.

The oldest part of this repair workshop was established in the 1880s. Initially, it was responsible for the repair of steam locomotives and freight wagons. Later, that assignment evolved into inspection and repair work on various types of freight wagons. Sometimes, entirely new wagons were even built there. An additional function consisted of the manufacture, storage, and distribution of all kinds of spare parts.

In the course of 2019, the workshops were completely vacated. The city is currently negotiating with the railway company regarding the purchase of the land. The intention is to realize a new urban development project on the 12-hectare site.

In the meantime, the buildings have been largely emptied, except for a few machines. A blank canvas, then, for many vandals armed with spray cans. But fortunately also for the occasional graffiti artist, like Klaas Van der Linden. He left behind a few of his now-famous skeletons. A few casually abandoned locomotives would have been nice. But even empty, the gigantic hangars remain very impressive.
