The village in which this special church is located, Estrées-Deniécourt, was completely destroyed during the First World War. Initially, it was not to be rebuilt. Thanks to the tenacity of the inhabitants, who formed a close-knit community, the authorities reversed this decision. The reconstruction of the village was made possible after all. However, during the Second World War, the village was struck by misfortune once again… Nevertheless, work was set to rebuild this time as well.
The church was designed by architect Marc Quentin. The building was constructed entirely of reinforced concrete and has no visible walls. It appears to consist of a roof structure that extends down to the ground. Almost the entire structure was pierced by square openings, which were lined with stained-glass windows in green and purple hues.
